Military History Fest Prep Work

This weekend I'm going to Military History Fest at Pheasant Run . It's a historical reenactor's convention organized by some friends of mine. I'm quite excited, I've never been to a reenactor's con (only the ball for one) and it's about time I do considering how much I like costuming, ren faires, and history. I was talking to a friend about what I should wear. His was response was that I could wear whatever I wanted, people will be just excited to see me help strengthen the female attendance in general.

I do have to say, most of the history majors, teachers, and professors I've known over the years have been male, and I really don't know why. Perhaps most of history has been written by men and about men, and also that much of history has to do with wars and violence and this appeals more often to men. But anyways, I'll just have to see if this convention really is a sausage fest or an exaggeration.

Apparently this convention is different than Anime or Sci Fi cons in the sense that most people there are reenacting and not just cosplaying. So, I'm going to make an Ancient Roman peplos or chiton for myself.

(^---Peplos and a Chiton---^)

They are super simple to make, and I'm planning on cracking one out today in a few hours, plus I know a lot about Roman history and will be able to reenact a character decently enough. I'm thinking about portraying Livia. I would have portrayed a vestal virgin but that would require more time and research on clothing than I'm willing to spend. There are just a lot of costume snobs, and I don't want to get anything wrong.

In the evening for the ball I plan on wearing my what has been dubbed my 1930's dress. Which is my pride and joy, my prom dress. I scraped and saved to buy that thing and it still is one of the prettiest things I own.

(Shannon and I at the MHS Ball Last year. I'm in my gold 1930's dress and she's in a blue Victorian Gown)
